An Active & Also Hot & Humid Upcoming Week Of Weather Is Expected Across Western & Central Mass

For The Rest Of This Afternoon: A mixture of sunshine and clouds are expected throughout the rest of this afternoon across the region. In addition, a very isolated shower or thunderstorm is possible. That said, most areas should stay dry this afternoon. Temperatures will be around 85 Degrees. Winds will be southwest at 5 to 10 mph. Tonight: More humid air is expected to push into the region as a rather strong weather disturbance pushes towards the area. Skies are expected to be generally cloudy tonight with widespread showers and scattered thunderstorms moving into Western Mass around 5-7 am time frame Monday morning. Low temperatures tonight will be between 65 and 70 Degrees. Winds tonight will be Southwest at 5 to 10 mph. Monday: Some much needed rainfall looks likely across parts of Western and Central Mass as a strong weather disturbance pushes across the area. Widespread showers with scattered thunderstorms are expected throughout the day on Monday. There are a couple of things that we’re going to have to watch out for with the thunderstorm activity. The first is a threat for some of the thunderstorms to be strong to severe. At this point, it appears that the highest threat for some strong to severe thunderstorms will be across Western Mass, including the entire I-91 corridor, where there will be some higher amounts of unstable air. Any strong to severe thunderstorms across Western Mass will be capable of producing strong wind gusts, frequent lightning, extremely heavy downpours and even an isolated tornado threat. The second thing that we’re going to have to keep an eye on is for the possibility for an isolated flash flood threat across Western Mass where some heavy rain totals are possible. At this point, it appears that rainfall totals on Monday may range from one third of an inch (0.33”) to two thirds of an inch (0.66”) across Central Mass to three quarters of an inch (0.75”) to one and one half inches (1.50”) of rainfall across Western Mass. Additionally, local amounts of 2 to 3 inches are possible across the Berkshires during Monday and this is something that’ll have to be watched in terms of flood potential. It will be very humid on Monday with high temperatures between 75 and 80 Degrees. Winds on Monday will be South at 8 to 16 mph. Tuesday & Wednesday: Hot and humid weather is expected on both Tuesday and Wednesday as a westerly wind flow imports some of the really hot weather that’s been located over the Central United States into our area. Tuesday looks partly sunny and there could be a couple of afternoon thunderstorms around. High temperatures will be between 85 and 90 Degrees. Winds will be west at 10 to 20 mph. Wednesday will be sunny to partly sunny and it will be hot and humid. High temperatures will be between 90 and 95 Degrees. Severe Thunderstorms A Distinct Possibility Thursday Afternoon & Thursday Evening: You will really need to keep an eye on the weather during Thursday as there could be a decent threat for severe weather during the afternoon and evening. A hot and oppressively humid day is expected on Thursday. A frontal boundary is expected to crash into this hot and humid air mass and create an atmosphere that’s potentially very ripe for severe weather. The atmosphere during Thursday afternoon is anticipated to be very unstable. Additionally, strong westerly mid-level winds will combine with southerly surface winds to produce a strongly sheared atmosphere. Finally, a cap may develop which could prevent any premature development of thunderstorms and instead we could see “explosive” development of thunderstorms during the afternoon when the atmosphere is primed and ready. So, strong to severe thunderstorms look quite possible beginning during the mid and late afternoon hours Thursday and continuing through Thursday evening across the entire area. This is something that I’m going to be keeping a VERY close eye on and will have updates as needed. High temperatures Thursday will be between 90 and 95 Degrees. Friday Through Next Sunday: Hot and humid weather is expected from Friday right through next weekend. Friday looks sunny to partly sunny with high temperatures near 90 Degrees. Saturday looks partly sunny and there may be some scattered late day thunderstorms. High temperatures will be near 90 Degrees. Next Sunday looks sunny to partly sunny with high temperatures between 85 and 90 Degrees.
