Periods Of Rain Tonight & Saturday Morning: Occasional rain is expected throughout this evening across the entire area as a warm front lifts across the region. This rain is expected to come to an end by just after midnight tonight, but we will likely be left with areas of fog and drizzle during the late night hours of tonight. In addition, temperatures will start out around 40 Degrees this evening, but will rise through the 40s by late tonight. Winds tonight will be South at 10 to 20 mph. A second round of rain will overspread the entire area by sunrise Saturday morning and then continue throughout the morning on Saturday before ending around the 1-2 pm time frame Saturday afternoon. Once the rain ends early Saturday afternoon, we will be in a very mild air mass with temperatures of 60 to 65 Degrees expected, along with humid conditions. Winds on Saturday will be Southwest at 10 to 20 mph with gusts to 30 mph. Showers & Thunderstorms Saturday Evening: A robust cold front is expected to push across the region between 8 pm and midnight Saturday night bringing with it the threat for showers and thunderstorms. Current indications point to showers and thunderstorms moving into Western Mass by about 8-9 pm Saturday evening and then pushing eastward reaching Central Mass by 10 pm. These will be fast moving showers and thunderstorms and because of this, they will be moving away and ending by about 11 pm. As for the thunderstorm intensity potential – At this point, I think that most of the thunderstorms will be well below severe limits. That said, it’s possible that a couple of the thunderstorms could be strong with a threat for strong wind gusts. Something to keep an eye on during Saturday evening. Once the cold front moves through by midnight, temperatures will fall into the mid to upper 30s during the after midnight hours of Saturday night. Winds Saturday evening will be Southwest at 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 35 mph. Winds late Saturday night will be West at 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 35 mph.

Snow Showers & Snow Squalls Are Expected Between 11 pm & 3 am Tonight Across Western & Central Mass: A strong cold front is expected to move through Western Mass between 10-11 pm and 2 am tonight and through Central Mass between midnight-1 am and 3 am. It appears very likely that a line of heavy snow showers and snow squalls will accompany this front as it pushes through. This all means that heavy snow showers and snow squalls are expected across Western Mass between 11 pm-midnight and 1-2 am. These heavy snow showers and snow squalls will be accompanied by briefly moderate to heavy snow and gusty winds. In addition, energy and instability with the frontal passage could be enough to produce some isolated thunder snow. The snow showers and snow squalls could put down a quick 1 to 2 inches of snow, which will lead to briefly snow covered and icy roads. For Central Mass, it appears that heavy snow showers and snow squalls can be expected between about midnight-1 am and 2-3 am. These heavy snow showers and snow squalls will be accompanied by briefly moderate to heavy snow and gusty winds. In addition, energy and instability with the frontal passage could be enough to produce some isolated thunder snow. The snow showers and snow squalls could put down a quick inch or so of snow accumulation, which will lead to briefly snow covered and icy roads. Once the front moves through, it will be windy late tonight into Thursday morning with northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 40 mph. Fortunately, the snow showers and snow squalls will be long gone by the Thursday morning and I don’t anticipate any issues for the morning commute.

For Tonight: An area of low pressure is expected to track to the south of New England tonight. It appears that rain will overspread Western Mass between 6 pm and 8 pm and then Central Mass between 7 pm and 9 pm. While most of the area should remain as rain, it appears that the rain will change to snow in the Berkshires by about the 9-11 pm time frame. Rain also looks to change to wet snow across the northern Worcester Hills about midnight or so. Rain for most of the area then looks to continue through and after the midnight hour tonight. A brief change from rain to snow looks to occur across most areas by about 5-6 am Tuesday morning. Any snow amounts tonight into early Tuesday morning should be limited to the northern Worcester Hills and the Berkshires where around one inch of accumulation is expected. Elsewhere, no snow accumulation is expected early Tuesday morning. Low temperatures tonight will be near 35 Degrees. Winds will be Southeast at 5 to 10 mph before midnight and North at 5 to 10 mph after midnight. Tuesday: That low pressure system will begin to move to the east during Tuesday. It looks like some mixed light snow and rain can be expected during the morning with no accumulations of snow anticipated. All precipitation should come to an end by early afternoon with skies remaining cloudy during the rest of the afternoon. High temperatures will be near 45 Degrees. Winds will be North at 5 to 10 mph. Wednesday: A sunny day is expected on Wednesday with high temperatures near 50 Degrees. Winds will be Northwest at 5 to 10 mph. Wednesday Night: A rather strong cold front is expected to push through the region during the after midnight hours of Wednesday night. This front looks to bring with it a line of potentially heavy snow showers and gusty winds as it moves through. Current indications are that heavy snow showers look possible for Western Mass between midnight and 3 am and for Central Mass between 2 am and 6 am Thursday morning. Any snow accumulations from the snow showers may amount to about one inch. The winds will also be quite gusty after midnight Wednesday night into early Thursday morning with Northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 35 to 40 mph. Low temperatures Wednesday night will be between 25 and 30 Degrees. Thursday: An area of high pressure will briefly control the weather during Thursday. Clouds will be on the increase during the day on Friday with showers moving in late in the day. High temperatures will be near 50 Degrees. Rain is expected throughout Friday night and Saturday. In addition, a few thunderstorms are a possibility during Saturday afternoon as some unstable air may work its way into the region. Temperatures Friday night will be steady near 50 Degrees. High temperatures Saturday will be near 65 Degrees. Rainfall totals from Friday night through Saturday look to average between 1 and 2 inches across the entire area.
