Snow Showers & Snow Squalls Expected Between 11 pm & 3 am Tonight Across Western & Central Mass

Snow Showers & Snow Squalls Are Expected Between 11 pm & 3 am Tonight Across Western & Central Mass: A strong cold front is expected to move through Western Mass between 10-11 pm and 2 am tonight and through Central Mass between midnight-1 am and 3 am. It appears very likely that a line of heavy snow showers and snow squalls will accompany this front as it pushes through. This all means that heavy snow showers and snow squalls are expected across Western Mass between 11 pm-midnight and 1-2 am. These heavy snow showers and snow squalls will be accompanied by briefly moderate to heavy snow and gusty winds. In addition, energy and instability with the frontal passage could be enough to produce some isolated thunder snow. The snow showers and snow squalls could put down a quick 1 to 2 inches of snow, which will lead to briefly snow covered and icy roads. For Central Mass, it appears that heavy snow showers and snow squalls can be expected between about midnight-1 am and 2-3 am. These heavy snow showers and snow squalls will be accompanied by briefly moderate to heavy snow and gusty winds. In addition, energy and instability with the frontal passage could be enough to produce some isolated thunder snow. The snow showers and snow squalls could put down a quick inch or so of snow accumulation, which will lead to briefly snow covered and icy roads. Once the front moves through, it will be windy late tonight into Thursday morning with northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 40 mph. Fortunately, the snow showers and snow squalls will be long gone by the Thursday morning and I don’t anticipate any issues for the morning commute.
