Shower Activity Becomes More Widespread Late This Afternoon Into Tonight

For The Rest Of This Afternoon: All of Central Mass and areas of Western Mass outside of the Berkshires will remain in-between the widespread showers associated with an eastward moving cold front and heavy rain associated with what’s left of Tropical Storm Philippe. This means that cloudy skies with a few hit or miss showers look likely throughout the rest of this afternoon. Much more widespread showers should overspread Western Mass by late this afternoon with these widespread encroaching on the western Worcester Hills by sunset today. Temperatures the rest of this afternoon will be between 65 and 70 Degrees with humid conditions. Winds will be East at 5 to 10 mph. Tonight: A strong cold front is expected to push its way across the region this evening bringing with it widespread showers with locally heavy rainfall across all of Western and Central Mass throughout the first half of tonight. These showers should come to an end between midnight and 2 am across Western Mass and then come to an end between 1 am and 3 am across Central Mass. Skies then will clear out late tonight with a drastic change in the air mass from humid conditions to cool and very dry conditions after midnight tonight. Low temperatures will be between 45 and 50 Degrees. Winds will be North at 10 to 20 mph before midnight and West to Northwest at 10 to 20 mph with gusts to 30 mph after midnight. Sunday & Sunday Night: I should be able to finally pull out our air conditioners on Sunday as a cool, windy and very comfortable air mass continues to rush into the region. In fact, I think it’s quite safe for you to shut off your A/C units for the season. Skies on Sunday will start out sunny to partly sunny with a mixture of sunshine and clouds expected during the afternoon. A hit or miss isolated shower is possible during the afternoon, especially in the Berkshires and across the Worcester Hills. It will also be windy on Sunday. High temperatures will be near 60 Degrees. Winds will be West at 15 to 20 mph with gusts to 30 to 40 mph. Skies should become clear to partly cloudy during Sunday evening with clear skies expected after midnight Sunday night. Low temperatures will be between 40 and 45 Degrees. Winds will be West at 5 to 10 mph. Monday: Skies will start out sunny during Monday with an increase in clouds expected by late in the day. High temperatures will be between 55 and 60 Degrees. Winds will be West at 10 to 20 mph. Tuesday: A piece of atmospheric energy rotating around a big upper level low pressure system located near Hudson Bay will lead to the development of a weak low pressure system that tracks near the region during the day on Tuesday. This means that cloudy skies are expected on Tuesday with some scattered showers possible. High temperatures will be between 60 and 65 Degrees. Wednesday & Thursday: That big upper level low pressure system over southern Canada should gradually weaken by the middle part of next week. This means that while Wednesday and Thursday both should have a mixture of sunshine and clouds during the day, it should stay dry. High temperatures on both Wednesday and Thursday will be between 60 and 65 Degrees.

1 To 2 Inches Of Rain Looks Likely Friday Night Through Saturday Night Across Western & Central Mass

For This Afternoon: An area of high pressure will remain in place over the region this afternoon. This means that lots of sunshine can be expected with temperatures between 80 and 85 Degrees. Winds will be East at 5 to 10 mph. It should be noted that this will probably be the last time we see over 80 Degree temperatures the rest of this year. Tonight: Skies look to start out clear to partly cloudy this evening with low clouds and fairly widespread fog moving in after midnight tonight. Some of the fog could be locally dense with very low visibility. Low temperatures will be between 55 and 60 Degrees. Winds will be Southeast at 5 to 10 mph. Thursday: Another very nice day is expected across the area as a high pressure system remains over the region. Sunny to partly sunny skies are expected during Thursday with high temperatures between 75 and 80 Degrees. Winds will be South at 5 to 10 mph. Friday: Clouds will be on the increase during the day on Friday as moisture begins to flow northward ahead of a strong cold front pushing eastward from the Great Lakes region. Also, moisture will also begin to be pulled northward out ahead of Tropical Storm Philippe, which will be positioned on Friday near Bermuda. I do think that part of this moisture will translate into some scattered showers occurring across the region during Friday afternoon. High temperatures will be near 70 Degrees. Winds will be Southeast at 5 to 10 mph. Friday Night Through Saturday Night: That strong cold front is expected to interact with the moisture and energy from Tropical Storm Philippe. How much moisture is entrained into the frontal system is something that really needs to be watched closely as it could really enhance the rainfall amounts across the region. It still looks like rain will overspread the entire area after midnight Friday night and then continue through all day on Saturday and all night on Saturday night. In addition to this, it appears that the rain will fall at a moderate to heavy rate at times during the day on Saturday. How heavy the rain will be and how prolonged the heavy rain will be is going to depend on how much moisture is entrained into this system from Philippe. This is something that’ll be watched closely, for sure. I still think that we’re probably looking at total rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches across the entire area from late Friday night through all day Saturday and all of Saturday night. Low temperatures Friday night will be between 60 and 65 Degrees. High temperatures Saturday will be near 65 Degrees. Low temperatures Saturday night will be between 50 and 55 Degrees. Sunday: Much cooler air will rush into the region on Sunday behind that cold front. In addition, there looks to be some moisture left behind as a big upper level low pressure system pinwheels into southern Canada. This means that Sunday looks cloudy and windy with scattered showers from time to time. High temperatures will be between 50 and 55 Degrees. Monday Through Next Wednesday: That upper level low pressure system over southeastern Canada is going to be a bug-a-boo in the forecast as we get into next week. Spokes of moisture and energy rotating around this upper level low will bring rounds of scattered showers through the region. Monday looks like we’ll see a mixture of sun and clouds with some afternoon scattered showers possible. High temperatures will be near 55 Degrees. Tuesday looks like there will be a mix of sun and clouds with high temperatures near 55 Degrees. Next Wednesday looks cloudy with some scattered showers around. High temperatures will be between 55 and 60 Degrees.
