Thunderstorms, Some Which Will Be Strong To Severe, Are Expected Monday Afternoon & Also On Wednesday Afternoon Across Western & Central Mass

For The Rest Of This Afternoon: A few showers and perhaps an isolated thunderstorm is expected to persist across the region until about sunset. Most areas though should remain dry. Temperatures the rest of this afternoon will be between 80 and 85 Degrees.

For Tonight: Any leftover isolated showers will dissipate at sunset with partly cloudy skies expected throughout tonight. Low temperatures will be between 60 and 65 Degrees. Winds will be West at 5 to 10 mph.

Monday: A round of thunderstorms, some of which will be strong to severe, are expected between about 2 pm and 7 pm across the entire area.

An upper level low pressure system accompanied by a mid-level pool of cold air is expected to drop southward into our area from southern Canada.

A warm and humid air mass combined with the cold pool of air will lead to the quick development of thunderstorms by afternoon.

The atmosphere is expected to be moderately unstable with some low-level wind shear present, which will be enough to lead to the threat of severe weather across the region during the mid and late afternoon hours.

Scattered to numerous thunderstorms are expected to drop southward into the area between about 2 pm and 3 pm and continue right through the late afternoon and early afternoon hours. Any strong to severe thunderstorms will be capable of producing quarter to golf ball size hail and 40-60 mph wind gusts.

The thunderstorms should come come to an end by about 7 pm or so Monday evening.

High temperatures will be between 75 and 80 Degrees. Winds will be Northwest at 5 to 10 mph.

Tuesday: An area of high pressure will build over the area during Tuesday leading to a sunny to partly sunny day. High temperatures will be near 80 Degrees. Winds will be West at 5 to 10 mph.

Wednesday: Another round of potentially strong to severe thunderstorms looks likely for Wednesday afternoon as a frontal system drops southward into our area.

The forcing and lift from the front will combine with a warm and quite humid air mass to produce an air mass that’s both quite unstable and strongly sheared.

This all means that widespread thunderstorms look quite possible between about 3 pm and 10 pm Wednesday with some strong to severe thunderstorms anticipated. Given what the severe weather parameters look like, it’s quite possible that the severe weather threat will be greater on Wednesday afternoon and Wednesday evening than what’s expected on Monday afternoon.

Any severe thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon and Wednesday evening will be capable of producing 50-70 mph wind gusts and up to golf ball size hail.

It will be quite humid on Wednesday with high temperatures between 82 and 87 Degrees.

Thursday & Friday: That frontal system will help to usher in a much drier and cooler air mass for Thursday and Friday.

Thursday looks to be partly sunny with high temperatures between 65 and 70 Degrees.

Friday is expected to be partly sunny with high temperatures near 70 Degrees.
