For Tonight: Skies will generally be cloudy throughout tonight with low temperatures around 20 Degrees. Winds will be West at 6 to 12 mph.
Christmas Day: Christmas morning will be cloudy across the entire area. During Christmas afternoon, skies are expected to gradually become partly sunny. High temperatures will be around 35 Degrees. Winds will be West to Northwest at 10 to 20 mph with gusts to 30 mph.
Christmas Night: Clear skies are expected and it’ll be cold and windy. Low temperatures will be between 5 and 10 Degrees. Winds will be North to Northwest at 15 to 20 mph with gusts to 35 mph.
Friday Through Saturday: An area of low pressure is expected to track southeastward across the Mid-Atlantic states during the day on Friday before it tracks well south of New England on Friday night and Saturday morning. A majority of this storm looks to miss our area to the south, but for anyone traveling to areas from southwestern Connecticut through the NYC metro, this is likely to be a pretty sizable snowstorm for them on Friday night (6 to 10 inches of snow forecast).
For our area, only a light snowfall, at most, seems most probable on Friday night with amounts ranging from a light dusting across northern Worcester County to 1 to 2 inches for areas near and south of the Mass Pike.
Friday is expected to start out sunny to partly sunny with an increase in cloudiness expected during the afternoon. High temperatures will be between 20 and 25 Degrees. Winds will be North at 5 to 10 mph.
A period of light snow looks possible during Friday night, especially across areas near and south of the Mass Pike. I do think that Western parts of Mass will probably see steady light snow for several hours on Friday night while Central parts of Mass sees more intermittent light snow. Snow amounts across Central Mass look to range from a light dusting across northern Worcester County to perhaps around one inch of snow accumulation across areas near and south of the Mass Pike. For Western Mass, snow amounts look to range from less than one inch across the upper Pioneer Valley to 1 to 2 inches across the lower Pioneer Valley, including the Springfield Metro. Low temperatures on Friday night will be around 10 Degrees. Winds will be Northeast at 5 to 10 mph.
All of the snow should be done by sunrise Saturday morning and we will be left with a sunny day throughout Saturday. High temperatures will be near 30 Degrees.
Sunday: A sunny day is expected on Sunday with high temperatures between 30 and 35 Degrees.
Another Storm To Watch For Late Sunday Night & Monday: Another storm system is expected to swing through the northeastern United States during Sunday night and Monday. Where this storm tracks in relation to our area is going to be very important in determining what type of precipitation falls from the sky. Unfortunately, there is a large amount of uncertainty as to the exact storm track & because of this, the forecast for this storm is quite uncertain.
The possible scenarios for this storm range from mostly all rain late Sunday night and Monday with maybe a little bit of ice at the start of the storm to a storm that brings snow and then quite a bit of ice to the entire area during late Sunday night and Monday.
I did want to point out that the weather forecast guidance does not do a good job with resolving low-level cold air. Oftentimes the weather forecast guidance warms things up much quicker than what actually occurs & in the end, we end up with a colder storm than what weather guidance initially showed.
Because of this, I think that we will need to watch the forecast for late Sunday night and Monday very, very closely as a very messy mixed bag of snow and ice with perhaps some rain is quite possible.
