For Tonight: A warm front is expected to gradually lift towards our area during tonight.
It is expected that precipitation will first overspread Western Mass between 9 pm and 11 pm and then begin across Central Mass by around midnight. As for precipitation type, it appears that the precipitation will first begin as rain, but then quickly change to snow shortly after it begins.
During the after midnight hours of tonight, it is expected to snow everywhere across the region. The snow intensity is expected to be light in nature, but will be enough to accumulate on grassy and other non-pavement surfaces.
Snow accumulations during the after midnight hours of tonight are expected to range from less than one inch across the Pioneer Valley of Western Mass to around one inch or so across the rest of Western Mass and across all of Central Mass. There is the possibility of localized snow amounts of up to 2 inches in some parts of the Worcester Hills and the Berkshires.
Low temperatures tonight will be between 30 and 35 Degrees. Winds will be East to Southeast at 5 to 10 mph.
Friday: Some light snow is expected to persist for a few hours during Friday morning with little additional snow accumulation expected. The snow will come to an end by 9-10 am Friday morning.
Skies are then expected to remain cloudy from late morning through the afternoon hours on Friday.
High temperatures will be between 45 and 50 Degrees. Winds will be East at 5 to 10 mph.
This Weekend: This upcoming entire weekend looks unsettled with Saturday being the worst of the two days. It is expected that a low pressure system will track from the Mid-Atlantic coast on Saturday to south and east of Nantucket on Saturday night into Sunday morning.
Precipitation in the form of a mix of rain and snow will overspread the entire area during the late night hours of Friday night and the predawn hours of Saturday morning. This mixture of rain and snow is then expected to continue through much of, if not all of the day on Saturday. Additionally, there is the possibility that the rain-snow mix will change to all snow at times during Saturday morning. Another thing that we are going to have to keep an eye on is whether temperatures rise above freezing in some the higher elevations of the Berkshires and parts of the Worcester Hills west of I-190. If they don’t rise above freezing, then some freezing rain could occur at times in these areas. As for snow amounts late Friday night into Saturday morning, I do think that a slushy dusting of snow seems most possible in most areas. The exception may be in the Hilltowns of Western Mass, the Berkshires and in the Worcester Hills where around one inch of snow accumulation is possible.
All-in-all, Saturday looks to be a downright miserable day.
Low temperatures Friday night will be near 30 Degrees. High temperatures Saturday will be near 35 Degrees, except in the lower 30s in the Berkshires and the Worcester Hills. Winds on Friday night will be Northeast at 10 to 20 mph. Winds on Saturday will be Northeast 10 to 20 mph with gusts to 30 mph.
The precipitation with that low pressure system is expected to come to an end during Saturday evening with cloudy skies expected from late Saturday night through all day Sunday. Low temperatures Saturday night will be between 30 and 35 Degrees. High temperatures Sunday will be near 50 Degrees.
