Snow continues to fall across the entire area at the time of this writing. Here in Sturbridge, I have recorded between 1.5 and 2 inches of snow thus far from this storm.
BE AWARE THAT ROADS ARE QUITE SLIPPERY. There have been accidents already this evening on area roads, including a jackknifed tractor trailer unit on the Mass Pike in Charlton. So, if you absolutely have to go out, be extremely careful traveling. Otherwise, stay home if you don't have to be out and about.
Snow is expected to continue to fall across the area through and probably past midnight tonight. Because of this, it is looking increasingly more likely that we might end up with higher snow totals than previously thought.
It still looks as though the snow will change to sleet maybe as early as 2-4 am across areas south of the Mass Pike and by 4-6 am across areas near and north of the Mass Pike.
A sleet storm is then anticipated to occur across areas near and south of the Mass Pike from 2-4 am until 8 am when it will change to freezing rain and from about 4-6 am until 9 am when it will change to freezing rain across areas north of the Mass Pike.
Updated Forecast Snow Totals: Before the changeover to sleet, it appears that snow totals will range from 4 to 6 inches for areas near and south of the Mass Pike and across the lower Pioneer Valley to 6 to 8 inches of snow accumulation for areas north of the Mass Pike. Up to 9 inches of snow is a possibility across the northern Worcester Hills. This slight increase in the snowfall forecast is due to the amount of snow that has already accumulated and the expectation that we still have 6-8 more hours where it's going to snow.
There is no change from my previous forecast in regards to the freezing rain forecast for tomorrow. That said, this is a part of the forecast that I will be watching extremely closely and will have updates as needed.
