5:15 pm Tuesday Afternoon Weather Update For Western & Central Mass

  • 1 min read

A band of heavy rain is currently set up from the Springfield Metro eastward through Sturbridge & Charlton through the Worcester Metro to Grafton and the I-495 corridor. This heavy rain is most definitely impacting the afternoon/evening commute & I urge everyone on the roads to exercise extreme caution. Low visibility in heavy rain & the risk for hydroplaning is high. Additionally, street and highway flooding is extremely likely, so again, please use extreme caution when traveling for the next hour or two.

Heavy rain is also occurring along the I-190 corridor, as well as along the Route 2 corridor from Leominster & Fitchburg westward to Athol. Please use extreme caution if you are traveling across the northern Worcester Hills.

These couple of bands of heavy rain are likely to remain in place for the next hour or so before they begin to pivot off to the southeast.

With how persistent these bands of heavy rain have been over the past hour, I will be closely monitoring things & watching for reports of flooding across the area.
