FINALLY - I have been asked a lot over the last couple of days about the rumors of a big snowstorm or blizzard on Thursday. I want to tell you that these rumors are FALSE!!!

What looks like happened is someone shared a clickbait weather model image a couple of days ago showing a huge 30 inch blizzard & the post went viral causing everyone to think that there was this big snowstorm coming.

This is why I hate click-bait posts and why I equally hate weather apps from AccuWeather and the Weather Channel.

My wife, Meg, came up with a great analogy to the click-bait post. They are like the newscaster or meteorologist on TV teasing you with a quote like "I'm tracking a snowstorm, will it hit us or not? Tune in at 11:00". And when you tune in at 11:00 or whatever, you find out that there is no threat of a snowstorm at all.

Most weather-related click-bait uses the worst possible model image, whether it's a blizzard from one particular model or what us meteorologists term, a model-cane, which is a weather model depiction of a major hurricane hitting a major city 10 days away. Usually these models are wrong & this is why you should treat worst case social media posts regarding weather with a lot of skepticism.

And this leads us to the weather apps from the Weather Channel and AccuWeather. These apps use one weather model for their forecasts. This means that if the model is wrong (and it usually is) then the forecast on your app will be incorrect.

My job as a meteorologist is to look at ALL of the data, which includes between 12 and 18 different weather model forecasts, as well as an analysis of satellite data, radar data, weather patterns and historical comparisons to past weather events. I take all of this data along with my own knowledge, education and experience in meteorology (almost 35 years of operational weather forecasting experience) and come up with a forecast that I send out to you.

So, while I'm tracking the potential of a storm system tracking off of the East Coast of the United States on Wednesday night into Thursday, all of the data that I've looked at seems to indicate this storm system will track too far east to be much of a concern for our weather. It's possible that we could see some snow during the day on Thursday with perhaps a couple of inches to ***maybe*** a few inches of snow, but I'm not anticipating it to be a big storm.

This will be the final update of the evening. I will be back tomorrow with the latest forecast for everyone!!!
