The snow has all but ended across the Berkshires into much of the Pioneer Valley of Western Mass. Light snow, however, continues across parts of the lower Pioneer Valley at the time of this writing, but will be ending within the next hour.

Across Central Mass, light snow is still occurring as of 1 pm this afternoon. Here in Sturbridge, we have received 1.7 inches of snow accumulation as of 1 pm.

The snow looks to come to an end across Central Mass over the next 1-2 hours or so with areas in far eastern and southeastern Worcester County not seeing the snow ending until about mid-afternoon. That said, little if any additional snow accumulation is expected across Central Mass over the next couple of hours.

Once the snow ends, expect a rush of Arctic air to invade the region for tonight and all day Monday. Low temperatures tonight will drop to between 5 and 10 Degrees with high temperatures Monday between 20 and 25 Degrees. West to Northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph with higher gusts can be expected throughout tonight and all day Monday.

The good news, if you like snow, is that the snow that we received will remain on the ground and not really melt over the next few days giving things looking very much like a Christmas portrait.

The bad news (if you like snow) is that it is expected to warm up by Thursday and Friday with high temperatures expected to get up into the low to mid 40s. Additionally, rain looks likely for Friday. The combination of the mild temperatures and rain will likely melt and wash away much, if not all of the snow that we have on the ground right now.

Light snow continues to fall across all of Western and Central Mass at the time of this writing. Here in Sturbridge, I measured about 0.7 inch of snow at about 8 am.

Light snow should continue across the entire area for the next 2-3 hours or so & will come to an end quickly from west to east beginning across Western Mass around midday or so & then ending across Central Mass by early afternoon.

Additional snow amounts look to range from about 1/4 to 1/2 of an inch from Western Mass to the northern parts of Worcester County and between 1/2 of an inch and 1 more inch of snow across central and especially southern parts of Worcester County.

For This Afternoon: Cloudy skies are expected throughout this afternoon. It’s possible that there could be a passing isolated snow shower during this afternoon.

Temperatures will be between 30 and 35 Degrees. Winds will be Southwest at 10 to 20 mph.

Some Snow Is Expected From About Midnight Tonight Until About Mid To Late Morning Sunday: Moisture on the backside of a frontal boundary is expected to overspread all of Southern New England this evening. This will lead to a widespread snowfall to occur across parts of Western and Central Mass with more snow the further south you go across our area. The reason for this is due to dry, Arctic air shutting off the snow quickly across northern parts of Worcester County into the northern parts of the Pioneer Valley and the northern Berkshires. This quick shutoff of the snow will lead to very little in the way of snow accumulation. Further south, the snow is expected to persist longer across southern Worcester County into the lower Pioneer Valley. This will lead to somewhat higher snow amounts across these areas.

Light snow is expected to overspread the entire area from south to north between 11 pm and 1 am tonight. The snow is then expected to continue through the after midnight hours of tonight across the entire area.

Snow is expected to come to an end across the Berkshires and the upper Pioneer Valley around sunrise Sunday morning and then across the lower Pioneer Valley and northern parts of Worcester County by mid-morning. Across southern and especially southeastern parts of Worcester County, it appears that the snow will hang on for a while during Sunday morning before it comes to an end around midday Sunday.

My latest forecast snowfall map for tonight through Sunday morning has been attached to this post.

Low temperatures tonight will be between 20 and 25 Degrees. Temperatures during Sunday morning will be in the low to mid 20s. Winds tonight will be West to Southwest at 5 to 10 mph before midnight and West to Northwest at 5 to 10 mph after midnight. Winds on Sunday morning will be Northwest at 10 to 15 mph.

Sunday Afternoon, Sunday Night & Monday: Another shot of Arctic air will invade the region during Sunday night and Monday.

Sunday afternoon is expected to be cloudy with temperatures between 25 and 30 Degrees. Winds will be Northwest at 10 to 20 mph.

Sunday night looks clear, cold and windy with low temperatures between 5 and 10 Degrees. Winds will be Northwest at 15 to 25 mph.

Monday is expected to be sunny to partly sunny, cold and windy. High temperatures will be between 20 and 25 Degrees. Winds will be West to Northwest at 15 to 25 mph.
