A robust cold front is expected to push across the region during late tonight and early tomorrow morning. This front will have just enough energy and moisture to produce snow across all of Western and Central Mass during tonight into the first parts of New Year’s Day morning.
Snow will overspread Western Mass between about 8 pm and 10 pm and then begin across Central Mass between about 10 pm and midnight tonight. Once the snow begins, it is expected to continue throughout the overnight hours of tonight into the first parts of New Year’s Day morning.
Snow looks to come to an end first across Western Mass between 7 am and 9 am tomorrow morning and then across Central Mass between 8 am and 10 am tomorrow morning.
Once the snow ends during tomorrow morning, it is expected to become partly sunny during tomorrow afternoon.
Forecast Snow Totals: All-in-all, it appears that snow totals of around 2 inches can be expected across all of Central Mass. Across Western Mass, snow totals of around 1 inch looks likely in the Pioneer Valley of Western Mass and snow totals of around 2 inches can be expected in the Hilltowns of Western Mass and across the Berkshires.
This will be a light and fluffy snow. Even with that, slippery conditions can be expected very shortly after the snow begins tonight as this will be a cold storm. Because of this, the snow will have no problems accumulating on all surfaces. Gusty winds tonight and tomorrow morning will lead to areas of blowing snow leading to reduced visibility in some areas. Be very careful if you are out and about ringing in the New Year as slippery roads are likely. Also, bundle up tight as it’s going to be quite cold tonight.
Low temperatures tonight will be around 15 Degrees. High temperatures on New Year’s Day will be around 25 Degrees.
Winds tonight will be Southwest at 10 to 20 mph with gusts to 30 mph. Winds on New Year’s Day will be West at 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 35 mph.
