Rain Saturday Morning Changes To Accumulating Snow Saturday Afternoon Across Western & Central Mass

For This Afternoon: Sunny skies will give way to partly sunny skies this afternoon as clouds increase ahead of a low pressure system over the southern United States. Temperatures this afternoon will be around 50 Degrees. Winds this afternoon will be south at 5 to 10 mph. Tonight: Skies will become cloudy this evening with cloudy skies expected after midnight tonight as a low pressure system begins to strengthen over the southeastern United States. Some scattered rain showers are possible very late tonight, however, the main bulk of the precipitation will hold off until after sunrise Saturday morning. Low temperatures tonight will be near 35 Degrees. Winds tonight will be south at 5 to 10 mph. Saturday: A very active and changeable weather day is expected on Saturday across the entire area as a low pressure system rapidly strengthens as it tracks northeastward from the Mid-Atlantic coast Saturday morning to the Gulf of Maine during Saturday afternoon. Rain is expected to begin across the entire area around sunrise Saturday morning and continue through at least mid-morning Saturday. By late Saturday morning and early Saturday afternoon, weather conditions will rapidly change as colder air pushes in on the backside of the low pressure system. Rain is expected to change to snow first across the Berkshires by about the 9-10 am time frame and then across the Pioneer Valley of Western Mass and the hilltowns of Western Mass around or just before midday Saturday. A changeover from rain to snow is then expected to occur across the northern and western parts of Worcester County, including the Route 2 corridor as well as the I-84 corridor during the early afternoon hours of Saturday. A changeover from rain to snow is then expected to occur across the remaining parts of Worcester County, including the Worcester Metro, the I-190 corridor and the I-395 corridor by mid-afternoon Saturday. Snow then is expected to continue into early evening Saturday before ending. My Forecast Snow Amounts For Saturday Afternoon & Saturday Evening Is Attached To This Post.

Even more important, I think, is that the temperatures will fall into the 20s from west to east during Saturday afternoon. This means that when the rain changes to snow at your location on Saturday, expect wet surfaces to become icy very quickly. This snow will then accumulate on top of these icy surfaces leading to some extremely icy conditions Saturday afternoon and Saturday evening across the entire area. Bottom line is that it’s going to be one big mess Saturday afternoon and Saturday evening. Saturday Night & Sunday: Cold and windy conditions are expected on Saturday night and Sunday. Saturday night will be cloudy after the snow ends early in the evening. Low temperatures will be between 15 and 20 Degrees. Winds will be west to northwest at 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 35 mph. Sunday will be partly sunny with high temperatures near 35 Degrees. Winds on Sunday will be west to northwest at 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 35 mph. Next Week: A stretch of dry weather with mild temperatures are expected for next week. Monday looks partly sunny with high temperatures near 50 Degrees. A mixture of sunshine and clouds is expected on Tuesday with high temperatures between 50 and 55 Degrees. Wednesday is expected to be partly sunny with high temperatures between 50 and 55 Degrees. Thursday looks sunny to partly sunny with high temperatures near 55 Degrees. Next Friday looks partly sunny with high temperatures near 55 Degrees.
