Icy Conditions Are Expected Tonight & Wednesday Morning Due To Freezing Rain & Sleet Across Western & Central Mass (Issued: 1:50 pm Tuesday 1/6/2026)

Icy conditions are likely tonight into tomorrow morning as showers of freezing rain and sleet move across all of Western & Central Mass.

A frontal system is expected to push through the region during tonight. Milder air pushing over a cold surface is likely to lead to the occurrence of freezing rain and sleet across the entire area.

Showers of freezing rain and sleet are expected to overspread all of Western and Central Mass by about 7-8 pm this evening. The showers of freezing rain and sleet are then expected to continue throughout all of tonight into the morning hours of Wednesday.

These showers look to end as some snow showers by mid to late Wednesday morning.

Ice amounts tonight into Wednesday morning are expected to average between one tenth (0.10") of an inch and two tenths (0.20") of an inch.

This will not be enough ice to produce any sort of downed tree limbs or power lines.

There will be enough ice accumulation tonight and Wednesday to lead to slick conditions and hazardous travel conditions. Because of this, I strongly urge you to exercise extreme caution if you are out on the roads tonight and Wednesday morning. Wednesday morning's commute is likely to be quite challenging and slow-going due to the anticipated icy conditions.

Thanks, Rob. I'm already sick of winter.
