Hot & Humid With Scattered Thunderstorms This Afternoon Across Western & Central Mass

Oppressive heat and humidity is expected this afternoon across the entire area under partly sunny skies. Temperatures will be between 90 and 95 Degrees with heat index readings of 98 to 103 Degrees expected. Given the hot and extremely humid conditions, it’s not going to take much to develop quite a bit in the way of cumulus and cumulonimbus clouds this afternoon. As for the thunderstorm threat this afternoon, analysis reveals that the area that has the best chance of seeing scattered thunderstorms will be near and especially north of the Mass Pike between about 3 pm and about 9 pm. Like yesterday, any thunderstorms will be the pulse/garden variety type of storms with locally heavy downpours and frequent lightning strikes the main threat.
