10:45 pm Weather Update For Western & Central Mass

As I mentioned in my forecast from earlier today, I thought that this was going to be a tough, tough forecast & it's definitely turning out that way.

Dry air nosing down from a high pressure system over Maine has been causing the rain to "evaporate" as soon as it hits the Connecticut/Rhode Island-Mass border & because of this, little or no rain has occurred all evening long across all of Western and Central Mass. In fact, many areas north of the Mass Pike has seen very little rain so far from this system.

Radar imagery at the time of this post does show rain trying to push northward from Connecticut and Rhode Island & we will have to see if this rain fills in across our area once we get into the after midnight hours of tonight.

I do think that we will probably see rain occur across much of the region from the after midnight hours of tonight through at least Tuesday morning. The rain actually could persist through all of Tuesday afternoon & in fact, some of the latest weather forecast guidance now shows most of the rain occurring during all day Tuesday into Tuesday evening & this will be something to keep an eye on.

One big difference now is that the rain totals look to be much less than what was previously thought. Rain totals now could average between one-half of an inch and one inch across the entire area. Should any banding of heavy rain set up from the predawn hours of Tuesday morning through Tuesday morning & into early Tuesday afternoon, it could mean we could see localized rain amounts of up to 2 inches.

Bottom line is that weather forecast is hard sometimes!!!
