Windy & Cold Weather Continues Through This Afternoon & Tonight Across Western & Central Mass; Snow Possible Late Saturday Night Into Sunday (Issued: Early Thursday Afternoon 12/11/2025)

For The Rest Of This Afternoon & Tonight: A windy and cold afternoon is expected across the entire area under partly sunny skies. Temperatures will fall into the low to mid 20s during this afternoon. Winds will be West at 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 40-50 mph. Wind chill temperatures this afternoon will be in the single numbers.

Windy and cold conditions are expected to continue through all of tonight. Skies during tonight will be clear to partly cloudy with low temperatures between 10 and 15 Degrees. Winds will be West at 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 40-50 mph. Wind chill temperatures will be between Zero and 5 below zero.

Friday: Windy conditions are expected to persist through Friday morning before the winds begin to decrease in velocity.

Skies during the day on Friday will be sunny to partly sunny. High temperatures will be near 30 Degrees. Winds will be West at 20 to 25 mph with gusts to 35 mph in the morning and West at 15 to 20 mph with gusts to 30 mph in the afternoon.

Saturday: A weak high pressure system will control the weather throughout the day on Saturday.

This means that skies will start out partly sunny during the morning. Gradually increasing clouds are then expected during the afternoon.

High temperatures will be between 30 and 35 Degrees. Winds will be Southwest at 10 to 15 mph.

Saturday Night & Sunday: There continues to be considerable amounts of uncertainty as to whether it will snow or not from late Saturday night through the day on Sunday. A fast moving low pressure system is expected to track off of the Mid-Atlantic coast by late Saturday night and then track east-northeastward passing somewhere near or south of New England during Sunday afternoon. The uncertainty to the forecast lies with the exact track of this low pressure system & how close it gets to our area.

On one hand, if this low pressure system passes near the south coast of New England, it would lead to a few inches of snow to occur across the entire area during late Saturday night and Sunday.

On the other hand, if this low pressure system passes well offshore of the south coast of New England, it would mean no snow at all for the entire area on Sunday.

The weather forecast guidance that I look at when making a forecast have been very inconsistent with each other & are showing very different scenarios, depending on which guidance member you look at.

The reason for this is due to a strong piece of energy in the northern part of the jet stream that is expected to dive southeastward across the Great Lakes. The timing and strength of this piece of energy is going to be crucial in determining whether it is able to tug that low pressure system northward. A more subdued outcome would lead to the low pressure system being pushed well offshore of the New England coast. A more amplified outcome would help to pull that low pressure system far enough north to give the entire area accumulating snow late Saturday night and Sunday.

One thing that I wanted to mention is that the weather forecast guidance seems to all be trending towards the more amplified northern piece of energy. Should these trends continue, then all of my snow lovers out there will be very happy on Sunday.

For Now, My Thinking Is That we may see snow overspread the entire area well after midnight on Saturday night. Snow then may continue across the entire area throughout all of Sunday morning before it gradually comes to an end during Sunday afternoon.

I’m still thinking that we may see snow amounts anywhere from a couple of inches to a few inches of snow. Areas across northern Worcester County into the upper Pioneer Valley and the Berkshires may end up seeing closer to the couple of inches of snow. Meanwhile, areas over southern Worcester County into far southeastern parts of Hampden County may end up seeing closer to a few inches of snow accumulation.

Low temperatures on Saturday night will be between 15 and 20 Degrees. High temperatures Sunday will be near 25 Degrees.

Sunday Night & Monday: Another shot of Arctic air will invade the region during Sunday night and Monday.

Windy and cold weather looks likely for both Sunday night and Monday.

Sunday night looks clear, cold and windy with low temperatures between 5 and 10 Degrees.

Monday is expected to be sunny, cold and windy with high temperatures between 20 and 25 Degrees.
