Widespread Showers With Heavy Downpours Along With A Few Thunderstorms Expected Very Late Tonight Through Saturday Morning Across Western & Central Mass

For Tonight & Saturday: An area of low pressure now located over the southern parts of Virginia is expected to head northeastward and ride along a stationary frontal boundary. The combination of these two weather features will lead to widespread showers that will produce heavy downpours starting late tonight that lasts through Saturday morning. In addition to the widespread showers, a few thunderstorms are a possibility as the atmosphere will be quite humid and somewhat unstable.

There will be an increase in shower activity beginning just after midnight tonight that will become quite widespread in overall coverage by sunrise Saturday morning.

During Saturday morning, I anticipate that there will be widespread showers across the entire area and some of the heavier showers will produce heavy downpours. In addition to this, a few thunderstorms could occur during Saturday morning, especially across areas near and south of the Mass Pike where there will be enough of an unstable atmosphere to produce thunderstorms.

The shower activity will gradually diminish in coverage during the first half of the afternoon with some isolated showers and possible thunderstorms left by late afternoon.

Total rainfall amounts of up to one inch looks likely from late tonight through Saturday morning with localized amounts of up to 2 inches possible in the heavier downpours.

It will be very humid tonight and Saturday. Low temperatures tonight will be between 70 and 75 Degrees. High temperatures Saturday will be near 80 Degrees.

Winds tonight will be Southwest at 10 to 20 mph. Winds on Saturday will be Southwest at 5 to 10 mph.

Sunday: The sun will return on Sunday, but the heat and humidity will also be in full force. High temperatures Sunday will be between 85 and 90 Degrees with humid conditions. Winds will be West at 5 to 10 mph.
