Two Rounds Of Snow Are Expected This Weekend Across Western & Central Mass – One From Late Tonight Into Saturday & The Second Round Late Sunday Afternoon & Sunday Evening

Some Snow Is Expected From Very Late Tonight Into Saturday: A couple of low pressure systems are expected to push across New England during tonight and Saturday. These storm systems will bring snow to the entire area during late tonight and during the day on Saturday.

Snow is expected to develop across the entire area during the predawn hours of Saturday morning. The snow is then expected to continue until mid-morning on Saturday across Central Mass. A break in the snow is expected across Central Mass from mid-morning until early afternoon. Meanwhile, snow looks to continue throughout all of Saturday morning across Western Mass as well as across the far northern Worcester Hills.

During Saturday afternoon, snow is expected to begin again across Central Mass during the early afternoon hours and then continue through the late afternoon hours. Across Western Mass, snow is expected throughout all of Saturday afternoon & it may be moderate in intensity at times.

The snow is expected to come to an end across the entire area by early Saturday evening.

My forecast snowfall total map for late tonight & Saturday is attached to this post. As you can see, the highest snow totals look to be across the northern Worcester Hills as well as across Western Mass where it’ll likely snow all day on Saturday.

Low temperatures tonight will be between 15 and 20 Degrees. High temperatures Saturday will be in the mid to upper 30s.

Winds tonight will be Southwest at around 10 mph. Winds on Saturday will be Southwest at 10 to 20 mph.

Maybe Some More Snow Late Sunday Afternoon & Sunday Evening, Especially Across Parts Of Central Mass: The forecast for late this weekend continues to be a very tough one as there is a considerable amount of uncertainty as to how far west the accumulating snow with an offshore low pressure system will get into our area.

Some of the weather forecast guidance such as the European model shows a far enough offshore track so that any snow will be limited to far southern and southeastern parts of Worcester County.

Other weather forecast guidance such as the Canadian model is showing a closer approach of that low pressure system. Because of this, it leads to snow to occur across the entire area during Sunday afternoon and Sunday evening. In this scenario, snow amounts of 2 to 4 inches would occur across the entire area. It should be noted that the Canadian model has been extremely consistent in this type of a forecast while other models such as the GFS and European models have been all over the place in their forecasts of the late weekend storm.

Here Are My Thoughts: I still think that there are higher odds for a nothing burger with the late weekend storm rather than something that gives widespread accumulating snow across the entire area.

That being said, it’s quite possible that this storm system could come close enough to give some snow to the area from later Sunday afternoon through Sunday evening. Should this occur, it could lead to snow accumulations to range from a dusting across Western Mass to something like 1 to 3 inches or so across Central Mass.

Even though the late weekend system looks to be a minor one in terms of snowfall, I’m still going to be keeping a very close eye on it in case it trends towards something bigger.
