Thunderstorms, Some Of Which Might Be On The Strong Side, Are Expected Late Saturday Afternoon Into Saturday Evening Across Western & Central Mass

For This Afternoon: Conditions are expected to turn warmer and more humid by this afternoon across the entire area as a southwest wind flow controls our weather.

Skies during this afternoon will feature a mixture of sunshine and clouds. Additionally, there is the possibility for a few showers and thunderstorms during the late afternoon and early evening hours (between about 4 pm and 8 pm).

Temperatures during this afternoon will reach between 77 and 82 Degrees. Winds will be Southwest at 10 to 20 mph.

Tonight: That southwesterly wind flow will continue across the region tonight.

This means that skies tonight will be partly cloudy with low temperatures between 55 and 60 Degrees. Winds will be Southwest at 6 to 12 mph.

Saturday: A warm and humid day is expected on Saturday under a mixture of sunshine and clouds.

The thing that we will need to watch as we get into late Saturday afternoon and Saturday evening is the thunderstorm threat and the possibility that some of the thunderstorms might be on the strong side. The atmosphere during Saturday afternoon is expected to be somewhat unstable as a piece of atmospheric energy traverses across the region leading to the expectation of scattered showers and thunderstorms during the late afternoon and evening hours.

I think that we’ll see scattered showers and thunderstorms affect the entire area from about 4 pm or so Saturday afternoon until about midnight Saturday evening. Some of the thunderstorms may be on the strong side, especially across Western Mass and across areas of Central Mass north of the Mass Pike. Any strong thunderstorms would be capable of producing wind gusts of up to 45-50 mph, hail and torrential downpours. This is something that I’ll be keeping an eye on and I’ll have updates for you as needed.

High temperatures Saturday will be around 80 Degrees. Winds will be Southwest at 10 to 20 mph.

Sunday: At least part of the day on Sunday looks wet across the region as an upper level low pressure system begins to control our weather. Unfortunately, that upper level low will become a big weather nuisance during next week.

At this point, Sunday looks cloudy throughout the day. It does look dry during the morning with an increase in scattered shower activity expected during the afternoon.

High temperatures will be between 65 and 70 Degrees. Winds will be South at 7 to 14 mph.

Next Week’s Weather Outlook: A large part of next week looks unsettled as an upper level low pressure system will nearly stall across our area.

Monday & Tuesday both look cloudy and there will be widespread showers around. High temperatures on both Monday and Tuesday will be near 60 Degrees.

Wednesday looks cloudy and there will be scattered shower activity around. High temperatures will be near 65 Degrees.

Thursday looks like there will be a mixture of sun and clouds with some scattered showers expected. High temperatures will be between 60 and 65 Degrees.

Next Friday looks partly sunny with high temperatures near 65 Degrees.
