Strong To Severe Thunderstorms Possible Friday Afternoon Across Western & Central Mass

For This Afternoon: Generally a mixture of sunshine and clouds is expected for the rest of this afternoon. Temperatures the rest of this afternoon will be near 75 Degrees. Winds will be northeast at 5 to 10 mph. Tonight: An area of high pressure will control the weather tonight. This means that a mixture of clouds and stars are expected tonight with low temperatures near 55 Degrees. Winds tonight will be south at 5 mph. Thursday: That high pressure system will push to the east during the day on Thursday and this means that a return to higher humidity levels look likely. Skies throughout Thursday will feature a mixture of sunshine and clouds with high temperatures near 75 Degrees. Winds on Thursday will be south at 10 to 20 mph. Friday: The main focus for Friday’s forecast is going to be the threat for strong to severe thunderstorms during the afternoon as a cold front moves across the area. It’s going to be very warm and humid on Friday under a mixture of sunshine and clouds. All indications are that a line of thunderstorms will push quickly across Western Mass between about 1 pm and 3 pm Friday afternoon and then across Central Mass between about 3 pm and 5 pm Friday afternoon. These storms may tap into a very warm and humid environment that’ll feature quite a bit of unstable air. Because of this, I think that a few of the thunderstorms will be strong to severe with wind gusts of up to 60 mph and hail up to size of pennies and quarters. The cold front that’ll bring the shower and thunderstorm activity will push to our east by the very late afternoon hours of Friday. High temperatures Friday will be between 85 and 90 Degrees with very humid conditions. Winds on Friday will be southwest at 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. This Weekend: An unusually cool weekend for mid-June is expected across Western and Central Mass as an upper level low pressure system hangs over the region. A mixture of sunshine and clouds is expected on Saturday and there could be a few late afternoon showers and thunderstorms that could produce small hail. High temperatures Saturday will be near 65 Degrees. More sunshine is anticipated for Sunday with high temperatures near 70 Degrees.
