Smoke From Quebec Wildfires Will Affect Western & Central Mass Tonight & Tuesday

It looks like another round of near ground smoke could be a concern again beginning this evening across Western Mass and spreading into Central Mass first thing Tuesday morning.

This smoke is from widespread forest fires that are now occurring across Quebec province, Canada and will be pushed into our area by a northwesterly wind flow.

Current indications are that smoke will push into Western Mass by early this evening and it could be quite dense this evening through the overnight hours of tonight leading to lowered visibilities, a distinct smell of smoke in the air and possible health concerns to those with asthma, COPD and emphysema.

This smoke is expected to spread into Central Mass just after sunrise Tuesday morning and the smoke will remain in place across all of Western and Central Mass throughout the day on Tuesday. This will lead to the possibility of lowered visibilities, a distinct smell of smoke in the air and possible health concerns to those with asthma, COPD and emphysema.

In addition to the smoke issues, there will also be the risk of afternoon scattered showers and thunderstorms on Tuesday across the entire area. Main threat with thunderstorms will be heavy downpours and of course, lightning. That said, it's possible that a couple of thunderstorms could be on the strong side with small hail and gusty winds.
