Showers & Thunderstorms Expected Late Tonight Into Wednesday Morning Across Western & Central Mass

For The Rest Of This Afternoon: A southwest wind flow will lead to a hot and humid rest of the afternoon under sunny to partly sunny skies. Any showers and thunderstorms connected to an eastward moving frontal boundary are likely to hold off until after sunset. Temperatures this afternoon will be between 85 and 90 Degrees. Winds will be Southwest at 10 to 20 mph. Tonight & Wednesday Morning: A frontal boundary is expected to push through the region late tonight bringing the threat for showers and even overnight thunderstorms. Fairly widespread showers with scattered thunderstorms are expected to push into Western Mass just before midnight tonight and then overspread Central Mass just after midnight tonight. The shower and thunderstorm activity is then expected to continue through the predawn hours of Wednesday morning before coming to an end just after sunrise Wednesday morning. Even though severe thunderstorms are not expected during the overnight hours of tonight, the combination of very humid conditions, modest amounts of wind shear and modest amounts of unstable air could lead to a couple of the thunderstorms to be on the strong side that could produce wind gusts to 50 mph and small hail. The more likely threat from any heavy shower and thunderstorm activity will be heavy downpours that could produce poor drainage, street and highway flooding. Low temperatures tonight will be between 65 and 70 Degrees. Winds will be Southwest at 10 to 20 mph. Wednesday Afternoon: Increasing sunshine is likely by Wednesday afternoon, however, it looks like it’ll remain warm and humid with high temperatures near 85 Degrees. Winds will be West at 5 to 10 mph. Thursday & Friday: High pressure builds back into the region for Thursday and Friday bringing some MUCH less humid air into the area with some very comfortable weather expected. Thursday is expected to be sunny with high temperatures between 75 and 80 Degrees. Dew point temperatures of between 45 and 50 Degrees will make for some very comfortable weather. Winds will be West at 10 to 20 mph. Friday also looks sunny and quite comfortable with high temperatures between 75 and 80 Degrees. Labor Day Weekend Outlook: Saturday looks sunny to partly sunny with continued comfortable humidity levels. High temperatures will be between 80 and 85 Degrees. Sunday & Labor Day both look partly sunny with more humid conditions. In addition, some scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible both afternoons. High temperatures on both Sunday will be between 85 and 90 Degrees. High temperatures Labor Day will be between 75 and 80 Degrees. An Updated Look At The Tropics – Even though I continue to closely monitor an area of disturbed weather over the central Tropical Atlantic, it appears that the threat to the Bahamas and the US East Coast are much, much lower than they appeared a couple of days ago. All indications now are that even though this system may still become a tropical storm and possibly a hurricane at some point this weekend into next week, it’ll likely curve out into the open Atlantic with perhaps a threat to Bermuda. This means that this system poses no threat at all to Southern New England.
