I continue to keep an eye on the weather situation in terms of thunderstorm potential for this afternoon and this evening across the entire area.
Before I get into the nitty gritty of what I'm looking at, I want to calm some down and slow our roll a bit. As I mentioned yesterday, I think that the greatest tornado threat with any severe weather later this afternoon into this evening looks to be across central and southern Vermont and central, southern and southwestern New Hampshire. As of late this morning, I still think this and all indications seem to point towards the best dynamics and severe weather ingredients for severe weather and tornado potential looks to be found just north of our area across southern and central Vermont and central, southern and southwestern New Hampshire. I AM NOT expecting a significant severe weather or tornado event across Western and Central Mass this afternoon and this evening. Okay, now with that out of the way....
It is still expected to be very warm and humid this afternoon with a mixture of sunshine and clouds expected. Temperatures will climb towards the upper 80s during this afternoon.
Scattered thunderstorms look to develop across Western Mass around the 4-6 pm time frame and progress into Central Mass as we head towards the 5-7 pm time frame. Some of the thunderstorms may be on the strong to severe side with the threat for 50-60 mph wind gusts, heavy downpours and frequent lightning. An isolated tornado is possible with any really severe storms, but again I think the greater tornado threat is going to be found just to our north.
This round of thunderstorms should come to an end by about the 8-10 pm time frame.
I will be watching things closely the rest of the day today and will have updates as needed.
