For Tonight: Some scattered rain showers are expected from time to time during tonight as we await a strong cold front, which is expected to move through during Thursday morning.
Low temperatures will be around 35 Degrees. Winds will be South at 5 to 10 mph.
Thursday: A strong cold front is expected to push through the area during Thursday morning. Once this front moves through, colder air will push into the area during Thursday afternoon. This means that the high temperatures for Thursday of 40 to 45 Degrees will occur during the morning. Temperatures are then expected to fall through the 30s during the afternoon.
Cloudy skies are expected throughout Thursday morning. In addition, some scattered rain and snow showers are expected to accompany the front during the morning.
During Thursday afternoon, skies will become partly sunny. That said, some scattered snow showers are possible during the afternoon.
Winds on Thursday will be Southwest at 7 to 15 mph in the morning and West at 10 to 20 mph with gusts to 30 mph in the afternoon.
Thursday Night & Friday: A shot of colder air will invade the entire area during Thursday night and Friday.
Thursday night looks to feature varying amounts of cloud cover. Low temperatures will be around 15 Degrees. Winds will be West at 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 35 mph.
Friday looks partly sunny and windy with high temperatures around 30 Degrees. Winds will be West at 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 40 mph.
This Weekend: The weekend weather is going to hinge on the track and strength of a low pressure system that’s expected to push off of the Southeastern coast of the United States on Saturday night. There is little agreement between the weather forecast guidance on what might occur with this storm system and how it may affect our weather.
Weather forecast guidance such as the GFS model is forecasting a major storm that tracks near Nantucket on Sunday night leading to a major snowstorm on Sunday night into Monday across the entire area with 1 to 2 feet of snow.
Other weather forecast guidance such as the Canadian model forecasts a further offshore storm track. This would lead to some snow to occur from Sunday afternoon to Monday morning with accumulations of 3 to 5 inches or so.
Yet other weather forecast guidance such as the European model is showing a complete miss with a quiet weekend weather wise across the entire area.
Based on extensive analysis of all of the weather data, I think that the GFS model’s forecast of a major snowstorm is an outlier & I’m not buying it. I also think that the European model’s forecast of a complete miss may also be an outlier & because of that I’m not buying that forecast either.
My take is that we may end up seeing perhaps a storm that stays a bit offshore & because of this, it brings some accumulating snow (maybe something like 2 to 5 inches or so) to the entire area beginning on Sunday afternoon and continuing through Sunday night to Monday morning.
That being said, I urge you to monitor the weather forecasts for this weekend closely, in case things trend towards a bigger storm.
To sum up the weekend weather forecast:
Saturday looks cloudy & it appears that there will be some light snow during the day as a weather disturbance moves through the area. Snow accumulations of around one inch or so looks possible during Saturday. High temperatures will be around 35 Degrees.
Sunday will be cloudy with snow beginning during the afternoon. High temperatures will be near 35 Degrees.
Snow is possible throughout Sunday night with low temperatures near 20 Degrees.
Snow may continue into Monday morning before it ends by Monday afternoon. Again, I’m thinking this shouldn’t be a big deal in terms of snow amounts with maybe 2 to 5 inches of snow accumulation possible. High temperatures will be near 30 Degrees.
