Our Weekend Snow Event For Western & Central Mass Might Occur On Saturday Rather Than Sunday Into Monday (Issued: Late Thursday Afternoon 1/15/2026)

For Tonight & Friday: Windy and cold weather is expected for tonight and Friday as a cold front pushes offshore of the New England coast.

Generally partly cloudy skies are expected during tonight with low temperatures between 10 and 15 Degrees. Winds will be West at 15 to 25 mph.

Friday looks sunny to partly sunny with high temperatures around 30 Degrees. Winds will be West at 18 to 28 mph with gusts to 35-40 mph.

Some Snow Is Expected On Saturday: An area of low pressure is expected to lift northeastward and cross New England during the day on Saturday. In response to this, snow is expected to occur during Saturday morning across the entire area.

Snow looks to develop across the entire area during the predawn hours of Saturday morning. The snow is then expected to continue throughout all of Saturday morning and then should come to an end around midday Saturday. It should be noted that some lingering snow showers will persist through Saturday afternoon.

At this time, it appears that snow accumulations of 1 to 2 inches seems most probable across the entire area. Not a big deal at all, but it’ll still be enough snow to cover the ground.

High temperatures Saturday will be near 35 Degrees. Winds will be Southwest at 10 to 20 mph.

Sunday Through Monday: I continue to keep close tabs on a storm system that’s expected to push off of the US Southeast coast during the day on Sunday. While the weather forecast guidance continues to struggle and show uncertainty as to where this storm will track in relation to our area, it is looking more possible that this storm could be a near miss for our area rather than a direct impact.

Weather forecast guidance such as the GFS model, which yesterday at this time showed a major snowstorm now shows no snow at all for our area.

Weather forecast guidance like the European model continues to show a storm track well east of Nantucket, which would leave our area with no snow at all on Sunday into Monday.

Finally, the Canadian weather model shows a storm track just barely east of Nantucket, which leads to a 2 to 5 inch snowfall across the entire area during the day on Sunday.

At this point, I think the odds are higher for a near miss rather than a direct impact which would lead to a major snowstorm. That being said, this storm system may still come close enough to the area & give us some snow during the day on Sunday that persists into Sunday evening. Any snow accumulations on Sunday look to be anywhere from a couple of inches to perhaps a few inches of snow.

That being said, I urge you to continue monitoring the latest updates regarding the Sunday snowfall. While it looks to be a minor snowfall right now, things may still trend towards something bigger & it’ll be something that I’ll be watching out for.

Whether we see snow or not on Sunday, what does look very likely is the potential for bitterly cold temperatures pushing into the area during next week. High temperatures on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will only be in the 20 to 25 Degree range. Low temperatures for Monday night, Tuesday night and Wednesday night will be in the single numbers.
