No Meaningful Relief To The Drought Conditions Expected Anytime Soon Across Western & Central Mass

Unfortunately, our moderate to severe drought conditions are expected to continue for at least the next couple of weeks. All of the data that I’ve looked at indicates no meaningful rainfall is likely anytime soon. At this point, all of Western Mass is in moderate drought conditions and may trend towards severe drought conditions very soon. As for Central Mass, moderate drought conditions are being reported across western and southwestern parts of Worcester County. Severe drought conditions are being reported across northern, eastern and southeastern parts of Worcester County. This may trend towards severe drought conditions shortly across all of Worcester County due to the high heat expected for later next week. What is it going to take to put a big dent in our drought? There are a few things that could put a dent in our drought – First, a tropical storm or a hurricane moving through the area would definitely bring the rainfall we need; Second would be a big, very wet storm system that moves through the area. Unfortunately, we usually don’t start seeing these until about the very end of September, October and November; Third would be a very wet or a very snowy winter and unfortunately, we’re still about 4 months away to see that sort of weather.

This Afternoon: Lots of sunshine is expected for this afternoon with very tolerable humidity levels (Dew point temperatures in the low to mid 50s). Temperatures will be between 80 and 85 Degrees. Winds will be Northwest at 10 to 20 mph. Tonight: An area of high pressure will build into the region tonight. This means that skies will be clear and low temperatures will be between 55 and 60 Degrees. Winds will be Northwest at 5 to 10 mph. Sunday: Lots of sunshine is expected on Sunday with comfortable humidity levels. High temperatures will be near 85 Degrees. Winds will be West at 5 to 10 mph. Monday: Partly sunny skies are expected on Monday with warmer and more humid conditions expected. High temperatures will be between 85 and 90 Degrees. Winds will be Southwest at 10 to 20 mph. Tuesday: A frontal boundary is expected to push through the area late Tuesday. Skies during the day will be partly sunny and it’ll be very warm and humid. Some isolated showers and thunderstorms during the late afternoon and evening hours. High temperatures will be between 85 and 90 Degrees. Wednesday: A sunny to partly sunny day with very warm and humid conditions are expected. High temperatures will be between 85 and 90 Degrees. Thursday: Lots of sunshine with hot and humid conditions are expected. High temperatures will be between 90 and 95 Degrees. Friday: A frontal boundary is expected to push through the area during the day. This means that more clouds than sunshine can be expected and there will likely be at least some scattered showers and thunderstorms around. It will be humid with high temperatures near 85 Degrees.
