Line Of Heavy Showers & Thunderstorms Will Move Across Western & Central Mass This Evening

For This Afternoon: A southwesterly wind flow will continue to bring warm temperatures to Western and Central Mass throughout this afternoon. Skies are expected to feature a mixture of some sunshine and lots of clouds with temperatures around 75 Degrees. It is expected that a line of heavy showers and thunderstorms will enter the Berkshires by about 5 pm with the rest of Western and Central Mass remaining dry throughout this afternoon. South winds are expected to gust up to 30 to 40 mph at times this afternoon. Tonight: A strong cold front is expected to move fairly quickly across Western and Central Mass between 8 pm and 11 pm this evening. Along and ahead of this cold front, there will be a line of heavy showers and thunderstorms that’ll move across the area this evening. The latest timeline of these heavy showers and thunderstorms are that it’s expected they’ll reach by about 7-8 pm and then move through the Quabbin, the Worcester Hills and areas around the Brookfields and Brimfield between 8 and 9 pm. Areas from Sturbridge to Worcester are likely to be affected by this line of heavy showers and thunderstorms between about 9 and 10 pm this evening. Current indications are that this line of showers and thunderstorms should weaken as it moves across Western and Central Mass as the amount of unstable air available drops to near zero. With that said, expect a brief period of upwards of 40 to 50 mph wind gusts when the line of showers and thunderstorms move through. In addition, brief heavy rainfall is also likely with these showers and thunderstorms. Even though the low-level wind shear is expected to be fairly high, there’s likely to be very minimal amounts of unstable air. This means that widespread severe weather is not expected. Instead, this line of heavy showers and thunderstorms will produce wind gusts of up to 40-50 mph, briefly very heavy rainfall and a few rumbles of thunder. Once the cold front moves through, there should be a few additional hours of widespread shower activity that’ll finally come to an end between about 3 am and 6 am Sunday morning. Low temperatures tonight will be near 50 Degrees. Sunday: A cooler and drier air mass will move into the area during Sunday. Skies on Sunday will feature a mixture of sunshine and clouds and high temperatures will be near 60 Degrees. Northwest winds will gust up to 25 mph at times on Sunday. Monday: A mixture of sunshine and clouds is expected for Monday with high temperatures between 55 and 60 Degrees. Northwest winds will gust up to 30 to 35 mph at times on Monday. Tuesday Through Wednesday: An area of high pressure will very slowly build into the area during Tuesday into Wednesday. This means that I think that Tuesday will be partly sunny with high temperatures between 55 and 60 Degrees and Wednesday is expected to be generally sunny with high temperatures near 60 Degrees. Thursday Through Friday: We should be on the western side of that high pressure system on Thursday with a frontal system moving through the area on Friday. This means that Thursday will feature a mixture of sunshine and clouds with high temperatures between 65 and 70 Degrees. Friday looks generally cloudy and there will be some scattered shower activity, especially during the morning. High temperatures Friday will be near 65 Degrees.
