Late Morning Storm Update

Snow continues to fall across all of Western and Central Mass as of the time of this writing.

It is expected to continue to snow across the entire area through midday.

By early afternoon, however, the snow will change to sleet and freezing rain first across the I-84, I-395 and Route 146 corridors by about 1 pm or so. The changeover line from snow to freezing rain and sleet will push northward reaching the Worcester Metro by about 2 pm or so this afternoon. This is about as far north as the changeover line should reach with the northern Worcester Hills and much of Western Mass remaining all snow. The exception could be across the lower Pioneer Valley where a changeover to sleet looks to occur during the mid-afternoon hours.

The changeover line from snow to freezing rain and sleet will then collapse to the southeast leading to all areas of Western and Central Mass to be all snow again by about 5-6 pm or so today.

All snow will come to an end by early this evening.

Additional snowfall amounts will range from 2 to 3 more inches across areas from I-84, I-395 and Route 146 northward to the Worcester Metro to 3 to 4 more inches of snow expected across the northern Worcester Hills and across much of Western Mass. The exception looks to be across the lower Pioneer Valley where 2 to 4 more inches of snow looks likely. It should also be noted that isolated additional snow amounts of up to 5 inches are possible across the northern Worcester Hills.

Slippery road conditions will continue to be very likely throughout the rest of today into early this evening. Extremely slick conditions are likely this afternoon across areas that see freezing rain and sleet, which does include the Worcester Metro, the I-290, I-395, Route 146 and I-84 corridors.
