Early Afternoon Update On The Incoming Snow Squalls

An area of snow squalls is now pushing through far eastern parts of New York State and is heading eastward at a forward speed of about 35-40 mph.

It is expected that these snow squalls will push through the Berkshires over the next hour and reach the middle and upper Pioneer Valley of Western Mass around the 2 pm time frame and then reach the lower Pioneer Valley around 2:15-2:30 pm.

These snow squalls are then anticipated to reach the western Worcester Hills and the I-84 corridor around 3 pm and then reach the Worcester Metro, as well as the I-190 and I-395 corridors around 3:15-3:30 pm. The I-495 corridor should be hit by these squalls around 3:30-3:45 pm.

BE AWARE THAT these snow squalls will produce heavy to very heavy snow for a short period of time (up to 15-30 minutes) that will lead to a quick 1 to 2 inches or so of snow accumulation. In addition, wind gusts of up to 45-60 mph will accompany these snow squalls leading to a brief period of extensive blowing snow and near blizzard conditions. A few rumbles of thunder cannot be ruled out with these snow squalls when they move through.

I CANNOT EMPHASIZE ENOUGH THAT EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS will be very likely when these snow squalls pass through your area. It's best to be off of the roads when these snow squalls move through.
