It looks like there will be a few hours of snow or a snow-rain mix across the entire area late tonight through the Thursday morning commute. This snow or snow-rain mix will quickly change to rain by mid to late morning on Thursday with rain showers continuing through Thursday afternoon.
A frontal system is expected to push across the region during the day on Thursday bringing with it a day of unsettled weather.
This Afternoon's partial sunshine and temperatures in the upper 40s to low 50s will give way to cloudy skies by midnight tonight.
An area of snow is expected to begin across the entire area between about 2 am and 4 am tonight.
While precipitation will be snow everywhere at the start, the precipitation will quickly mix with rain across areas near and south of the Mass Pike by about 5-6 am Thursday morning. All precipitation will change to rain across areas near and south of the Mass Pike during the Thursday morning commute with the rain continuing throughout the rest of the morning.
Across areas north of the Mass Pike and especially areas near and north of Route 2, snow is expected to continue for a few hours during the Thursday morning commute. Additionally, the snow may change to some freezing rain for a while in the Worcester Hills during the mid-morning hours on Thursday before it changes to all rain later Thursday morning.
Most areas of Western and Central Mass might see a coating of wet snow during the early and mid-morning hours of Thursday. The exception looks to be across the northern Worcester Hills where around one inch or so of wet snow can be expected during Thursday morning.
In addition, a light glaze of ice is possible on non-pavement objects during Thursday morning across the Worcester Hills.
Turning To Thursday Afternoon - Scattered rain showers can be expected throughout the afternoon with temperatures in the middle 40s.
All showers will come to an end by early Thursday evening.
Another frontal system is expected to affect the area during Friday night and Saturday. This time it appears that several hours of snow is a possibility starting around midnight on Friday night and lasting until about 7 am Saturday morning. Snow amounts of 1 to 2 inches or so seems possible.
One this initial wave of snow moves through, some later afternoon scattered rain showers are expected as temperatures will be in the middle 40s throughout Saturday afternoon.
Finally, Sunday looks to be a cold day under partly sunny skies. High temperatures will be near 25 Degrees.
