Two items of note that is of pressing concern -
First - Flood Warnings are now in effect for the I-91 corridor from the Springfield Metro northward to the Mass-Vermont border. 1 to 3 inches of rain has already accumulated across this part of Western Mass and upwards of 1 to 2 inches with higher amounts of additional rainfall is expected over the next several hours. This will lead to the potential for extensive flooding of roads, highways, urban areas and areas of poor drainage.
Second item of very pressing concern - An area of moderate to heavy rain is now pushing north-northeastward across eastern and southeastern Connecticut and is expected to begin affecting a large part of Central Mass, including the I-84 corridor, the I-395, and Route 146 corridors by about 9-9:30 am and then affect areas including the Worcester Metro, the I-190 corridor by about 9:30-10 am. The Route 2 corridor, including Leominster and Fitchburg is expected to be affected by this heavy rain by about 10:30 am.
This heavy rain is likely to lead to flooding of roads, highways and areas of poor drainage. More extensive flash flooding is something that'll have to be monitored extremely closely in the coming hours and I will update you immediately if this does occur.
More updates will be posted today as needed.
