8 pm Friday Evening Weather Update For Western & Central Mass

  • 2 min read

Mixed precipitation in the form of snow, sleet & freezing rain will change back to snow across all of Western and Central Mass over the next couple of hours or so.

Once the precipitation changes to all snow, I expect to see on & off snow until just before sunrise Saturday morning when it is expected to end.

Additional snow amounts tonight of 1 to 2 inches or so can be expected across the entire area, although those 2 inch additional amounts will probably occur in the northern Worcester Hills.

Temperatures tonight will remain in the upper 20s to near 30 Degrees through midnight & then fall to near 25 Degrees by sunrise Saturday morning.

Once the snow ends towards sunrise Saturday morning, I will begin to fully cover a potentially significant & quite possibly major winter storm that begins around midnight Sunday night & lasts through all day Monday before ending Monday evening. The latest weather data seems to be pointing more and more towards this being a very big deal in terms of a winter storm across all of Western and Central Mass.

For now, I’m going kind of conservative in terms of a snowfall forecast. This means that, for now, I'm thinking snow totals will range from 3 to 6 inches across Western Mass to 6 to 12 inches across Central Mass. Most of this snow will occur from just before dawn Monday morning through all day Monday. This snow will be accompanied by North to Northeast winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 40 mph leading to quite a bit in the way of blowing and drifting snow.

I want to strongly emphasize that my forecast snow totals may need to be increased significantly should later data confirm the idea of a major winter storm.

Finally, both all day Saturday and all day Sunday look fine in terms of weather as the snow will not begin until around midnight Sunday night.

Many, many more updates on this potential storm will be posted throughout this weekend. So, keep checking back!!!

So I am guessing the possibility of a snow day Monday is a good one?
