5 To 10 Inches Of Snow With Some Sleet Is Expected Friday Night Through Saturday Morning

For Tonight Through Thursday: A weak low pressure system is expected to track across the region tonight into Thursday morning. We should start tonight with some snow showers that may mix with some freezing rain this evening across the area. Any snow showers will be capable of depositing a dusting of snow. As we get into the after midnight hours of tonight into Thursday morning, it appears that some widespread rain showers will affect the region between 2 am and 10 am. Some freezing rain could be a concern across the Berkshires and across the northern Worcester Hills during the predawn hours of Thursday morning and this may lead to some slick conditions going into the Thursday morning commute. Rain showers will come to an end by late Thursday morning with generally cloudy skies persisting through the afternoon. Low temperatures tonight will be between 30 and 35 Degrees. High temperatures Thursday will be between 45 and 50 Degrees. Winds tonight will be Southeast at 5 to 10 mph. Winds on Thursday will be North at 5 to 10 mph in the morning and North at 10 to 20 mph in the afternoon. A 5 To 10 Inch Snowfall With Some Sleet Is Expected From Friday Night Into Saturday: An area of low pressure is forecast to take shape near the New Jersey coast during Friday night and then track just south of the Southern New England coast during the day on Saturday. There remains uncertainty as to the exact track of this storm and how exactly the changeover line between snow, sleet and freezing rain will set up across the region. At this point, it appears that areas north of the Mass Pike have the greatest chance of remaining as all snow with areas near and south of the Mass Pike possibly seeing more of a mixed bag of snow, sleet and freezing rain. Here Is What I’m Currently Thinking Region By Region: For Areas Near & South Of The Mass Pike: Snow will begin across areas near and south of the Mass Pike between about 5 pm and 7 pm Friday evening. I do think that the initial burst of snow Friday evening could be fairly intense with moderate to heavy snow for several hours Friday evening. Some milder air should push northward as we head towards the midnight hour on Friday night causing the snow to change to sleet by about midnight Friday night. Sleet mixed with freezing rain at times is then expected to continue during the after midnight hours of Friday night with a change back to snow possible during Saturday morning. Snow looks to come to an end during the early afternoon hours of Saturday. Combined snow and sleet totals for areas near and south of the Mass Pike may be around 5 to 6 inches or so. For Areas North Of The Mass Pike, But South Of Route 2: Snow begins across areas north of the Mass Pike between about 5 pm and 7 pm Friday evening. I do think that the initial burst of snow Friday evening could be fairly intense with moderate to heavy snow for several hours Friday evening. Some milder air should push northward as we head into the after midnight hours of Friday night causing the snow to change to sleet for a few hours well after midnight Friday night. Sleet looks to change back to snow around sunrise Saturday morning with snow continuing throughout the morning on Saturday. Snow looks to come to an end during the early afternoon hours of Saturday. Combined snow and sleet totals for areas north of the Mass Pike may be between 6 and 8 inches or so. For Areas Near & North Of Route 2: Snow begins across areas near and north of Route 2 by 7 pm Friday evening. I do think that the initial burst of snow Friday evening could be fairly intense with moderate to heavy snow for several hours Friday evening. Snow is then expected to continue throughout the after midnight hours of Friday night, as well as through all of Saturday morning. Snow looks to come to an end during the early afternoon hours of Saturday. Possible snow totals for areas near and north of Route 2 may be between 8 and 10 inches or so.
