2 To 4 Inches Of Snow Accumulation Expected Between 7-8 am & Midday Thursday Followed By Some Sleet & Freezing Rain Early Thursday Afternoon

A 2 To 4 Inch Snowfall Is Expected From 7-8 am To Midday Thursday & Will Be Followed By Some Sleet & Freezing Rain Early Thursday Afternoon: A fast moving low pressure system is expected to track across Southern New England during the day on Thursday. It is looking much more likely that most of the precipitation that occurs with this storm will be in the form of snow with perhaps some sleet and freezing rain occurring near the end of the storm.

Snow is expected to begin across Western Mass around 7 am or so and then across Central Mass around 8 am or so Thursday morning. A period of moderate to heavy snow is then expected to occur from about 8 am to 11 am across Western Mass and from about 9 am to midday or so across Central Mass. Snowfall rates of around 1 inch per hour can be expected during this 3 hour time period with the worst part of the storm looking to occur around the 10-11 am time frame.

The snow is expected to lighten up in intensity shortly after midday and once this occurs, it’ll change to some light freezing rain and sleet during the early afternoon hours.

All precipitation is expected to come to an end by about 3-4 pm or so Thursday afternoon.

Snow totals of 2 to 4 inches are expected across the entire area. Most of that snow is expected to accumulate between 8 am and 11 am across Western Mass and between 9 am and midday across Central Mass. A very light glaze of ice can be expected during the early and mid-afternoon hours across the entire area.

Travel during Thursday morning may become difficult due to the occurrence of heavy snow between 8 am and midday. During early Thursday afternoon, slippery road conditions can be expected due to the expectation of some light freezing rain and sleet. All-in-all, a pretty messy day for travel across the entire area.

Temperatures on Thursday will rise from morning lows of 10 to 15 Degrees to midday readings of 25 to 30 Degrees. During Thursday afternoon, temperatures will be around 30 Degrees.

Winds on Thursday will be Southeast at 5 to 10 mph in the morning and North at 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon.

Another Storm Is Expected On Saturday Night That Lasts Into Sunday Morning: Another storm system is expected to follow close behind Thursday’s storm and will affect the region during Saturday night and Sunday morning.

An area of low pressure is expected to track near the south coast of New England during late Saturday night and Sunday morning. It appears that there may be enough cold air in place so that most of the precipitation will be snow. It should be noted that there is the potential for this storm to bring moderate to even heavy amounts of snow.

Based on the latest data, it is expected that snow will begin across the entire area during Saturday evening and then continue throughout the rest of the night Saturday night. Snow then continues through a large part of Sunday morning before coming to an end by midday Sunday.

As I already mentioned, a moderate to heavy snowfall looks possible with the weekend storm and this could translate to something like a 6 to 10 inch or 8 to 12 inch snowfall.

Temperatures on Saturday night will be near 20 Degrees. Temperatures on Sunday will be near 30 Degrees.

This is definitely going to be a storm that I’ll be watching closely in the coming few days and I’ll have many more updates as needed.
