Scattered Thunderstorms With Localized Flooding & Gusty Winds Late This Afternoon & This Evening

Scattered Thunderstorms With Localized Flooding & Gusty Winds Are Possible Late This Afternoon & This Evening: A cold front is currently approaching southern New England. Ahead of this front, the atmosphere is quite unstable thanks to a very warm and extremely humid atmosphere.

It is expected that scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop first across Western Mass by about 3 to 4 pm or so and then overspread Central Mass by about 5 pm or so this afternoon. Scattered thunderstorm activity is then expected to continue through this evening before ending around midnight or so tonight.

Given the extremely humid environment, very heavy rainfall and localized flooding will be the main threat from thunderstorm activity. In addition, a couple of the thunderstorms could be on the strong side and be capable of producing some gusty winds.

One thing to remember is that these are likely to be typical summer thunderstorms. This means that the thunderstorm impacts will be hit and miss and not everyone will see a thunderstorm.
