Scattered Strong To Severe Thunderstorms Are Possible Late This Morning Into This Afternoon: Even though skies are sunny right now, a rather strong weather disturbance is approaching our area from the west and northwest. This has resulted in showers and thunderstorms that are now just moving into far northwestern Mass.
This area of showers and thunderstorms are expected to overspread the remainder of Western Mass and will also overspread Central Mass by later this morning into very early afternoon. The coverage of shower and thunderstorm activity is likely to increase this afternoon across Western and Central Mass.
The atmosphere across all of southern New England is expected to be unstable late this morning through this afternoon. The combination of the unstable atmosphere and that piece of energy will lead to the possibility of a few strong to severe thunderstorms late this morning into this afternoon. Hail will be the main threat with thunderstorms. In addition, some strong wind gusts of up to 40 to 50 mph are possible. Frequent lightning is also likely with any thunderstorm activity.
Finally, locally heavy rainfall with the potential for 1 to 2 inches of rainfall accumulation in a short period of time is expected. This means localized urban and poor drainage street flooding could be a threat.
The thunderstorm activity will come to an end by late this afternoon from northwest to southeast and a beautiful day is expected on Monday with lots of sunshine and high temperatures between 80 and 85 Degrees.
I will be monitoring the thunderstorm activity closely for you and will have frequent updates as conditions warrant.
