Rain Develops Later This Afternoon With Rain Mixed With Snow Tonight Into Tuesday Morning

For This Afternoon: Skies will remain cloudy throughout this afternoon and rain is expected to move back into the area starting in Western Mass between 3 and 5 pm and then spreading into Central Mass between 4 and 6 pm. High temperatures this afternoon will be between 52 and 56 Degrees with temperatures falling into the 40s once the rain begins.

Tonight Through Tuesday: A Nor’Easter will impact our area tonight through Tuesday as an area of low pressure moves to the east of Cape Cod late tonight and then moves towards Nova Scotia during Tuesday.

For areas along and south of the Mass Pike - Rain is expected throughout tonight and the rain likely will persist into Tuesday morning. Total rainfall amounts of between one half of an inch and one inch can be expected.

For areas north of the Mass Pike – Rain will mix with snow, especially after midnight tonight into early Tuesday morning. For the higher terrain of northern Worcester County, the western hilltowns of the Pioneer Valley of Western Mass and the Berkshires, the precipitation is expected to change to all snow after midnight tonight and persist into the first part of Tuesday morning.

As for snow accumulations tonight into Tuesday morning, it looks like snow amounts will range from just wet snow flakes mixing in with the rain across the valley floor of the Pioneer Valley and along the Mass Pike in Worcester County to up to one inch of snow accumulation across the upper Pioneer Valley and the western Hilltowns as well as across northern Worcester County. 1 to 2 inches of snow accumulation with locally higher amounts of 3 to even 4 inches is possible across the Berkshires.

The steady rain or rain-snow mix ends by late morning Tuesday with cloudy skies expected during Tuesday afternoon. In addition, a few rain showers are possible during Tuesday afternoon.

Low temperatures tonight will be between 34 and 39 Degrees. High temperatures Tuesday will be between 45 and 50 Degrees.

Wednesday: The sun will finally make a return on Wednesday as that Nor’Easter moves away. High temperatures Wednesday will be between 58 and 62 Degrees.

Thursday Through Friday: A weak frontal system moves through the area on Thursday. I think that we will start out with some sunshine Thursday morning, but skies will be cloudy Thursday afternoon along with some scattered showers around. High temperatures Thursday will be between 65 and 70 Degrees.

Some partial sunshine is expected on Friday, however, there may be a passing shower or two from time to time. High temperatures Friday will be between 65 and 70 Degrees.
