A Few Thunderstorms Are Possible This Afternoon Into Early This Evening Across Western & Central Mass

I am going to be keeping a very close eye on thunderstorm development this afternoon as any storms that do develop have the potential to be quite strong.

Weather analysis at the time of this post indicated that there are showers and thunderstorms occurring from central and western Vermont southwestward into eastern and south-central New York State.

These showers and storms are moving to the east at a forward speed of 25-30 mph and should reach far Western Mass shortly before midday. We will have to see if these showers and storms hold together as they push eastward into the rest of Western and Central Mass during the early part of the afternoon. Right now, the part of the line that would affect our area is weakening & if this weakening continues would mean we would see very little, if any activity from this particular area of showers and thunderstorms.

At least a few additional thunderstorms are anticipated to affect the entire area beginning around 2-4 pm or so and then continue through the late afternoon and early evening hours before ending by 8-10 pm or so this evening. Some of the thunderstorms could be on the strong to even severe side with wind gusts of up to 50-60 mph, pea to penny size hail, torrential downpours and frequent lightning.

That said, this thunderstorm is not certain as there are questions as to whether there might be some sinking area present right over our area as storms over Maine and New Hampshire and other storms over southern Connecticut and Rhode Island rob the energy from any storms that occur over our area.

Either way, it will be quite warm and humid throughout the rest of the day today with afternoon high temperatures between 85 and 90 Degrees.

More updates will be posted as needed.
