7:45 am Weather Update For Western & Central Mass

For The Rest Of Today: First – Any weather reports today would be greatly appreciated. I am particularly looking for reports of rain changing to snow, reports of snow accumulation and reports of any icy conditions. Radar imagery and my weather analysis can only do so much and your reports will help me get an idea of what is actually occurring. Thanks so much in advance for any weather reports!

Weather analysis right now shows some cold air that has seeped into Worcester County as well as into the upper Pioneer Valley where temperatures are now between 32 and 35 Degrees. I am concerned about areas along and north of Route 2 where some light freezing drizzle and light freezing rain may occur over the next few hours. This could lead to slippery conditions on untreated roads, sidewalks and driveways across areas along and north of Route 2 – so, please use caution.

Elsewhere, rain is pushing eastward into Western Mass and the rain has changed to snow in the Berkshires with both Pittsfield and North Adams now reporting snow.

The rain-snow line is expected to push eastward the rest of this morning. It appears that the rain will change to snow across the Pioneer Valley of Western Mass as well as across far northern Worcester County by 10 to 11 am or so and then across the rest of Worcester County by midday or so. The snow on the backside of the front is generally light, but I still think that most areas will see accumulations anywhere from a dusting to as much as one inch of snow.

A dramatic drop in temperatures are expected when the Arctic cold front moves through a little later this morning. It is likely that temperatures this afternoon will fall into the 20s across the Worcester Hills and across the Hilltowns of Western Mass and into the lower 30s across the rest of Western and Central Mass. It needs to be emphasized that some roads, sidewalks and other surfaces may become quite icy. The reason why is because the quick drop in temperatures will cause any wet surfaces to ice up.

Additional weather updates will be issued today as conditions warrant.
